Keith David in the Flesh and in the Cels
Keith David the award winning actor, singer, and voice over actor was born in Harlem, New York on June 4, 1955. He is a prolific, immensely talented actor who has been critically praised for his unwavering talent. He is perhaps most regarded for his unique and powerful voice that he has provided him with ample opportunities to branch out into other artistic genres like animation. He has received international notoriety for being the voice of Goliath from Gargoyles and in the animated series, the primary character, Spawn. One of his more recent voice roles was in the critically acclaimed Disney Movie, The Princess and the Frog, where he was the voice of the voodoo witch doctor, Dr. Facilier. He has done voice-over work for advertising campaigns, commercials, animation, documentaries, audio-books, public service announcements, computer games, he is a gifted narrator and orator. In 2008 he even won his second Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for his work in Ken Burns epic documentary ‘The War’. A few years prior he won his first for another Ken Burns documentary ‘Unforgivable Blackness: The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson’. This of course does not include the many other awards he has been nominated for and award winning films and plays he has starred in, throughout his career. A mere testament to his skill and dedication to his craft.
His movie and stage acting is just as commanding and exemplifies his range as an artist. He has appeared in many feature films throughout the years many of them went on to be box-office smashes while simultaneously being critical darlings. These movies include the Academy Award winning Platoon, Bird, Requiem for a Dream, There’s Something About Mary, Armageddon, Academy-Award winning Crash, The Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black, Barbershop, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, just to name a few. His television credits include appearances on ER, Law and Order, and CSI.
