Examining Epithets on Open Mic Night: Chris Rock’s Take
Chris Rock has become one of the most well known African American entertainers in America today. I call him an entertainer because he has graduated from being just a comedian. He has started doing acting and a variety of other jobs in the entertainment business. African Americans have taken their place in the entertainment industry and have done so with ease. This is most certainly a sign of our times and a good sign at that. While Chris Rock’s style of comedy might be a little rough for some audiences, he obviously has some talent considering how popular he has become in recent years. With African American predecessor’s like James Earl Jones, Eddie Murphy, and Bill Cosby, Chris Rock is making his own distinct mark on the industry. Entertainer’s like Rock have brought variety into the entire entertainment culture and so into our culture as a nation as well. It will be exciting to me to see in upcoming years what kind of unexpected talent comes out of the wood works. Hopefully it won’t take long since our country seems to be starved for a constant stream of entertainment.
